This wonderful cushion is the face of an old Banjara dowry bag. The Banjara are a semi nomadic group in India, reknown for their needlework skills. They use layers of recycled textiles, which are sewn together with kantha stitches and decorated with cowrie shells and pompons.
This gorgeous cushion is a madder red colour with is original pom poms and cowrie shells and dates to the first half of the C20, so all the colours are beautifully muted.
