This beautiful cushion is made from a Banjara kalchi or envelope bag that has been opened out. The textile is vintage and is in perfect condition. The madder red cotton has faded to a rust red colour and the embroidery itself is perfect and brilliantly executed, by a very skilled needlewoman. Each quarter of the cushion being embroidered with a different geometric pattern. It also has its original cowrie shells and tassels iconic to the Banjara.
I've backed the cushions with an indigo dyed vintage hemp and added a zip fastener and feather pad.
I think this cushion is a little treasure.
