Indigo Resist Cushion with Tassels

These pretty cushions are made from a traditional rural Chinese textile, known as "Bleu Anglais".
The textile is a strong homespun cotton patterned with auspicious symbols. The pattern is applied using stencil, a paste resist such as soya bean curd, and indigo dye.
The symbols on this textile include peonies symbolising longevity, loyalty, happiness and eternal beauty.
The Bleu anglais has been used for the cushion fronts, with indigo dyed vintage hemp for the backs. There are cotton tassels at the corners, zip fasteners and feather pads.
