Indigo Resist Cushions

Beautiful blue and white cushions in vintage Chinese Bleu-Anglais. Bleu- Anglais was the name given to this textile in the C18. It is a homespun cotton, block printed with indigo pigment onto a pattern of paste resist to create simple stylised motifs of flowers and fruit. These symbols are auspicious in Chinese culture. This example dates from circa 1920 and has been reclaimed from a futon cover. The cushions are backed in indigo dyed vintage linen, have piped edges, zip fasteners and feather pads.
