These stunning cushions are made from an early C20 silk phulkari,(wedding shawl) from the Punjab. Phulkari literally means "flowered work". The embroidery is worked in floss-silk on a coarse cotton cloth. Amazingly the stitching is worked from the back of the fabric, by counting threads. So very good eyesight is needed! and patience as this work would take months or even years.
These cushions have real wow factor, the silk shimmers and the natural dyes show a little bit of age becoming slightly more matt in small areas. The cotton ground is good and strong but to preserve the life of this stunning work I wouldn't recommend these cushions are placed in areas of heavy use. I recommend secondary seating areas or on a bed.
