This beautiful red cushion has been created from a vintage Banjara kalchi (envelope bag). The main handwoven cotton textile is dyed red with madder and has faded over the years. The bag is heavily quilted and patterned with couched stitching. It is decorated with mirrors which are now foxed (to ward off the evil eye), and I've added cowries that had been removed around the edges. The textile is in good condition for its age, with just one mark in the bottom right hand corner, shown in the photo.
I've made the back of the cushion from vintage hemp, and it has a zip fastener and feather pad.
