This beautiful russet cushion has been created from a vintage Banjara kalchi (envelope bag). The main handwoven cotton textile is dyed red with madder and has faded over the years to this lovey rust colour. The bag is heavily quilted in tiny stitching and decorated with couched threads in yellow and orange. It is decorated with mirrors which are now foxed (to ward off the evil eye), and I've added cowries that had been removed. The textile is in perfect condition and it's a rare and special cushion.
I've made the back of the cushion from terracotta dyed hemp, and it has a zip fastener and feather pad.
