Savu ikat cushions

These lovely big fat cushions are made from a vintage selendang (shawl) from Savu, Indonesia. The shawl was hand woven in an ikat weave with cotton yarn that was pre coloured with natural dyes. The design is in wonderful tones of brown and black (or a very dark indigo). I've backed these cushions with a rare dark coloured vintage textile from East China. The textile picks up many of the ikat colours and i think works beautifully. The textile was hand woven on a very narrow loom so instead of joining 2 pieces to make the back, I've put the zip in where the adjoining seam would be.
