Lurik cushions, blue and beige

These two cushions are made from a contemporary hand spun and handwoven lurik from Java. The yarn is handspun so gives the textile a wonderful soft and slubby texture. The yarns are predyed with natural plant dye before weaving, and the weave is predominantly a soft indigo in light beige squares. I have used the lurik for both sides of the cushion, and the piping. The end result is a soft and textured fabric that reads as a plain colour, but on closer inspection is far more interesting.
