These cushions are made from a contemporary handwoven ikat from the island of Rote, Indonesia. Occasionally I will purchase new handwoven textiles to support the weaving communities, otherwise the skills would die out.
The textile was a selendang or shawl in thick naturally dyed cotton with fringed ends. The ikat is used for the fronts and backs of the cushions and the fringed ends used at the sides. There are zip fasteners and feather pads. The colour is a pretty acqua or seafoam colour - I'm not really sure how to describe it - greeny-blue?
