Sekomandi cushions with pleated sides

These striking cushions are made from a thick handwoven sekomandi ikat from Toraja, South Sulawesi. The sekomandi ikat is coloured with natural dyes in wonderful indigo, terracotta, light beige and dark brown. Sekomandi are used to decorate traditional houses in Sulawesi, for ceremonies such as weddings, to celebrate the cycle of life. The thick cotton used for the textile makes it ideal to use for cushions and upholstery. I've backed these cushions with a heavy linen in a complimentary brown, and used the striped borders of the textile as pleated sides. There are zip fasteners and feather pads.
