Red Dai Wedding Blanket Cushions

These cushions are made from a vintage Dai minority wedding blanket. The lovely red colour comes from the mineral dye sienna. The blanket is handloomed and the geometric pattern delivered with a floating supplementary weft. The blanket was woven on a narrow loom so two sides are joined to get the width of the cushion. The pattern joins perfectly at the seam which is testament to the skill of the weaver. I've backed the cushions in another vintage textile, this time from the Buyi minority. Again woven on a narrow loom, so two pieces making each back. The Buyi textile has been overdyed in indigo. There are zip fasteners and feather pads.
