Lao Cushion, Gold Silk With Coral Tassels

These cushions are made from a very beautiful handwoven Lao brocade. The brocade is woven in cotton and silk and the textile was destined to be made into a tube skirt or sindh that the Lao women wear. The fact that it has a lot of brocade pattern on the textile mean it was destined for a high status lady. The pattern is very complex and the weaver would have been very skilled. It would have taken a whole day to weave just a few inches. The colours are natural dyes and include a gold/mustard colour with supplementary weft colours of celadon green, off white, lilac and burnt orange floss silk. I've backed the cushions with a handloomed silk from Turkey and added coral coloured tassels. There are zip fasteners and feather pads.
